Get to know us...
My name is Jennifer and I am the dyer behind Spectacular Yarns! We are a small batch, independent hand-dyed yarn business located in Colorado Springs.
I have always had a passion for crafts. I am constantly learning new things and truly enjoy all crafts; sewing, quilting, cross stitch, crochet, knitting, etc. Apart from crafting, I have always thrived on working, staying busy, and constantly being challenged. Don't get me wrong, I love to have days where I can craft and relax all day, but I have to always have something challenging in my work life. When I'm not crafting or working, you can find me binge watching youtube with my 2 fur babies, chance (10 year old maltipoo) and Zoey (3 year old Great Dane), or exploring Colorado Springs with my husband, Jon.
A quick story on my work life. I have worked as long as I can remember. I worked in customer service for over 10 years which I absolutely loved. I resigned from my job a few years ago to dedicate myself full time to my business, JG Squared Decals. I was fortunate enough to have this opportunity thanks to my amazing, supportive husband who joined the military and supported us throughout my start up phase. Over the past few years I have learned and overcame challenges as an entrepreneur, owner, designer, and self employed worker. It's great to work from home, but any entrepreneur knows the hard work that comes with being a small business owner. Yet, I thrive on challenges!
I taught myself to crochet a few years ago and loved it, but could never dedicate too much time to it. I would occasionally crochet throughout the years, but never as much as I would have liked. Then KNITTING happened. I follow a lot of amazing crafters on instagram and I kept seeing beautiful projects and decided to learn on a whim! I decided to teach myself how to knit, with the help of youtube as well as a local yarn shop. I absolutely fell in love with yarn. The yarn shop was like a candy store to me!
I decided to begin dying yarn for myself so I can have unique and beautiful yarn. I discovered that I loved the whole process. I love being creative and have always loved the concept behind color theory. Being able to combine the two and make beautiful colorways and furthermore, be able to see my yarn come to life in a project has been so rewarding. I wanted to share it with the world! I began practicing a lot, learning new dyeing techniques, studying more color theory, learning photography, and never ending research. I decided to begin the journey of Specktacular Yarns (SPECK*tacular Yarns - hence the ever-so-popular SPECKled method). With current entrepreneur experience, over 10 years of customer service and my love for all things crafts and creativity, I feel confident I can provide this amazing community with great quality, beautiful, unique, and ethically sourced yarn!
